When deciding to renovate a bathroom, two options are usually considered: completely demolishing the old bathroom and removing the plumbing fixtures or replacing only the wall tiling and sanitary ware and continuing to use the existing pipes. The latter solution is certainly the most cost-effective but can lead to technical problems. Fortunately, however, there are special solutions that circumvent such problems. Find out how you can replace bathroom fittings without masonry work.
Is it possible to replace sanitaryware without masonry work?
If you want to replace old sanitaryware with new ones and obtain an efficient bathroom, you need to know some measurements before you buy. Every bathroom fitting has a water inlet and outlet that must match the plumbing system. For this reason, when planning a new bathroom, the plumber should request the technical data sheets of the new sanitaryware to be installed.
But what happens if you decide to replace both the bidet and the toilet? It will hardly be possible to find a toilet that fits perfectly into the existing floor stack. While there are no particular problems with the hot and cold-water pipes, which have a small diameter and are flexible, it is a different story when removing the pit for an ‘S’ syphon toilet with floor drainage or a ‘P’ syphon toilet with wall drainage. For this type of toilet, the corresponding pipes must be installed correctly. Alternatively, you can also opt for a toilet with offset dimensions.
Toilets with offset dimensions, the solution for bathroom renovation without masonry work Toilets with offset dimensions are equipped with an offset toilet flange, i.e., an adapter that allows you to move the position of the toilet bowl (i.e., move it forwards or backwards) depending on how the floor drainage is positioned.
However, this does not mean that you can move the toilet to a different position in the bathroom. If you are renovating the bathroom without removing the old pipes, you must keep the position of all sanitaryware exactly as it was before. However, with an offset toilet flange, it is possible to move the drain a few centimetres, making sure that the drain of the new toilet is in line with the existing floor stack.
Toilets with offset dimensions also prove to be the perfect solution from an aesthetic point of view, as the drain is located inside the new toilet and is therefore completely invisible.
They are a perfect solution, especially if you want to give your bathroom a new look by switching from an old toilet to a more modern, compact, and hygienic back-to-wall toilet. Back-to-wall toilets with offset dimensions give the bathroom a modern look and, thanks to their shape, conceal all pipes connected to the sanitary system.
