What will change for the 2024-bathroom renovation bonus? As every year, the government decides with the budget law whether or not to extend various incentives. In the case of the bathroom renovation incentive, it has opted for an extension until 31 December 2024. The incentives will therefore remain unchanged for those who decide to renovate their bathroom during the current year, including replacing the plumbing system. This will allow them to save a considerable amount of money. Here you can find out how to apply for the subsidy, who is eligible, what conditions must be met and what documents are required.
Bathroom renovation bonus 2024: Requirements.
Renovating a bathroom is a very demanding intervention that takes a lot of time to define the project and can involve high costs. However, these costs can be 'reduced' thanks to the bonus that the budget law also provides for the entire year 2024.
But what work is eligible for the bathroom renovation bonus? As in previous years, it is an incentive linked to expenditure on the renovation of sanitary facilities, i.e. extraordinary maintenance work. For example, only the replacement of sanitary ceramics is not eligible, as this type of intervention falls under ordinary maintenance.
Discount on bathroom renovation in 2024.
Anyone who decides to carry out extraordinary maintenance work in the bathroom can benefit from a tax deduction of 50% of the IRPEF on the expenses incurred until 31 December 2024, up to a maximum of 96,000 euros per property unit. This means that you can get back 25,000 euros for a total cost of 50,000 euros. The deduction is divided into ten equal annual instalments, so that - based on the example above - the taxpayer can receive a discount on the tax paid or a refund of 2,500 euros per year for 10 years. The contribution is recognised in the tax return for 2025, which relates to income and expenses in 2024.
Among the works that are deductible are:
- Replacement of sanitary ware.
- Tiling.
- The installation of new plumbing or electrical systems.
- Furnishings and expenses for transport and installation
Documents required for the 50% IRPEF deduction:
To receive the 50% IRPEF deduction for renovating your bathroom, you must file your tax return with a CAF (Tax Assistance and Information Office) or an accountant:
- Apply for a renovation licence from the municipality.
- CILA (the notice of certified commencement of works).
- Copies of the bank transfers used to make the payments.
In the justification for the payment, you must include the applicant's tax number for input tax deduction, the tax number and VAT number of the company carrying out the work and the invoice details.
Finally, we would like to remind you that for buildings that are being renovated, it is also possible to benefit from the 2024 furniture bonus, i.e. an additional IRPEF deduction of 50% of the expenses on furniture up to a maximum amount of 5,000 euros.
